Class 3 article
This article is about the Classic Space minifigure. For The LEGO Movie character, see Benny (The LEGO Movie).

The Blue Classic Spaceman, officially known as Spaceman (Blue Suit)[1] or Classic Space (Blue),[2] is a Classic Space Astronaut released in 1984, making it to be the last colour of Classic Space Astronaut to be released.

A blue spaceman named Benny is a major character in The LEGO Movie, while another blue astronaut named Spaceman Andreas appears in LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed.

Description

The Blue Classic Spaceman has bright blue legs and torso with a Classic Space logo printed on the torso. He has the 001 smiley head and wears a blue helmet. He has plain bright blue legs with an older molding than minifigures used today. He also has a bright blue oxygen tank and a bright blue helmet.

The Blue Classic Spaceman's updated appearance in 2009 and 2012 sets uses a bright blue Mini Crash Helmet, as the original helmet mold was no longer in use.

Benny from The LEGO Movie is a Blue Classic Spaceman variant in 2014. His intentionally cracked helmet and worn printing are a reference to design flaws with the original Blue Classic Spacemen. In the early productions of the helmet in the 1980s, LEGO said that the helmet they made was too thin, and when the kids got the sets with the blue spaceman some of the helmets would crack. Classic Spacemen's torso printings also rubbed off easily.

A Nanofigure Blue Classic Spaceman was introduced in 2018.

The Spacebaby is a baby Blue Classic Spaceman. A microfigure variant of the adult Blue Classic Spaceman, using the same mold as the Spacebaby, appears in several promotional sets released in 2024 and 2025.

Background

According to the creator of the Classic Space theme and minifigures, Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the blue astronauts were supposed to represent soldiers/security personnel.
