Shadowfax is a white horse from The Lord of the Rings theme.
Background Information
Shadowfax is the chief of the Mearas, the greatest breed of horses, descended from the horse that was ridden by the first king of Rohan; his ancestors were ridden only by the Kings of Rohan, but Shadowfax proved untameable until Gandalf came to Rohan seeking a horse. Eventually the wizard was able to tame Shadowfax, and the two developed a strong bond, such that Gandalf could reach out with his mind and summon Shadowfax to his aid; Shadowfax's speed was such that he could cover great distances in far less time than an ordinary horse. He later returned to Rohan after Gandalf faced the Balrog, and to King Théoden's displeasure would not allow any other man to handle him. Gandalf would later reunite with him after returning as Gandalf the White, and after the king gave Shadowfax to Gandalf with his blessing the two rode together against the various foes of Middle-Earth, particularly the Ringwraiths and their Fell Beast steeds.
