The Elemental Masters are a collection of beings with elemental abilities who appear in the Ninjago theme.
Background[]
Originally, the Elemental Masters were the guardians of The First Spinjitzu Master. However, their abilities were passed down for generations. The Ninja are also among them.

Master of Amber[]
The original Master of Amber was, unlike other Elemental Masters, not associated with the First Spinjitzu Master.
The Master of Amber in life.
Hailing from Metalonia, the man who would become the Master of Amber was a blacksmith envious of the power possessed by the Elemental Masters. Discovering a tree full of mystical amber that drew in anything that approached it, he figured out how to imitate its properties by inventing Chronosteel. He would then use this material to capture small amounts of power from the Elemental Masters, combining them in his Urn of Enmity to create Amber, the Elemental Power to steal other Elemental Powers.
Eventually, the Master of Amber lost his power as it, like the powers of the true Elemental Masters, passed into one of his descendants. Desperate for power, he confronted Wu and Garmadon and attempted to use the Urn of Enmity's powers to steal theirs. Instead, the urn consumed him, trapping his spirit within its confines. Wu and Garmadon placed the urn in a tomb, feeling that the master had brought this fate upon himself.
The Master of Amber appears to Skylor.
After more than a hundred of his successors had borne the power of Amber, the original master managed to contact Skylor, the latest in the line. Using a vision of Skylor's mother, he lured her to the urn, which drew in her spirit and allowed him to confront her. As she learned of his past, he learned of hers, and approved of her previous deceptions. However, no amount of admiration would keep him from his intent: to trap her in his place and seize her body, and the power of Amber, for himself.
When he attempted to drain Skylor's power, however, she fought back with her knowledge of the noble uses of her power. She was thus able to overcome him, breaking the chains that the urn had used to hold his spirit. A portal to the Departed Realm then opened, and the original master was drawn through it to the fate he had long been kept from.

- The legs of the Roman Emperor.
- The torso of the Aztec Warrior.
- Two Kai head designs from prior to The LEGO Ninjago Movie, one of them being from 70627 Dragon's Forge.

Skylor's mother[]
Skylor dreams of her mother.
Skylor's mother was the wife of Chen and the mother of Skylor. She also preceded Skylor as the Master of Amber, and passed her powers on to her daughter. After Skylor's birth she vanished, with Chen claiming to Skylor that she was no more. Skylor longed to see her again, which allowed the Master of Amber to lure her into a trap. Afterwards, Skylor decided to let her mother go at long last

Rusty's master[]
An unidentified Master of Fire was the creator of Rusty, a sentient mech who accompanied him to the Land of Monsters. The pair would engage in battle with a monstrous centipede-like creature that inhabited the Cave of Change. Tragically, they were defeated, and Rusty was left inert while the monster consumed the Fire Master and added him to its own body. As a result, the power of Fire passed into a new vessel and, eventually, to Kai. Kai later found and repaired Rusty, and together the two put an end to the monster that had slain Rusty's master.

Emperor Levo[]
Emperor Levo was the benevolent former ruler of Imperium and the former Elemental Master of Shockwave. His abilities were passed on to the elder of his twin daughters, Princess Zeatrix, who was also heir to his throne. Unfortunately, these situations became sources of resentment in his other daughter, Beatrix. After Levo rejected Lord Ras' offer of an alliance to capture a Source Dragon, Beatrix was quick to accept the offer. Turning against her father, she sabotaged his airborne transport and caused it to crash and kill him, making it appear to have been an accident.
Years later, several citizens of Imperium learned the truth about Levo's murder and thus formed a resistance movement against Beatrix.

Nyad[]
Nyad prior to becoming one with the sea.
Nyad was the original Elemental Master of Water, and like Benthomaar was a member of the most human-like sub-group of Merlopians.
Nyad was a skilled elemental master, capable of using her abilities to communicate with sea life. She was particularly well known for communicating with whales, who would serve as a means of transportation for her. Nyad is best known, however, for taking part in the epic battle against Wojira alongside the rest of her people, the islanders, and the First Spinjitzu Master. Nyad bravely mounted the head of the monstrous serpent, breaking her trident in the attempt to dislodge the Storm and Wave Amulets from Wojira's head.
When this effort failed, Nyad used her powers to merge with the ocean, becoming a being of incredible power who was able to overcome Wojira. However, the transformation also left Nyad as an elemental, unable to return to her original form. She thus disappeared into the waves, leaving the unconscious Wojira and her sources of power to her allies. Over time, Nyad would be memorialized in legends and myths, with her name later inspiring that of another Master of Water: Nya.
A year after emulating Nyad's sacrifice in her own battle with Wojira, Nya encountered Nyad herself in "The Call of Home". Having spent thousands of years at one with the ocean, Nyad has little or no memory of her humanity
Appearances[]
Notes[]
- Nyad's name, in addition to being based on Nya's, is a play on Naiad, a type of water spirit from Greek mythology. Interestingly, Naiads were associated with freshwater, whereas Nyad had power over all water and was notable for her connection with the sea.
- Nyad was voiced by Andrea Libman.
Maya[]
Nya[]
Lar[]
Lar is a Ninjago minifigure who appears in 2015 Ninjago books, but he did not appear in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. In the books he was the current Elemental Master of Water, but in the show this role was taken on by Nya.
Notes[]
- He would be the descendant of the Elemental Master of Water if he were canon to the series.
- His hairpiece is similar to Lloyd Garmadon.
- He and Jay are the only Elemental Masters with the same color.
- He is defeated by Kai in the tournament of elements.
- He did not appear in either Ninjago Tournament App or LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin since he is absent in the TV Show.
- Tommy Andreason's non-canon story Way of the Departed mentioned Lar as an imposter Elemental Master.
Wind[]
First Master of Wind[]
The First Master of Wind was the original Elemental Master of Wind in the realm of Ninjago and Morro's ancestor. Nothing else is known about them.

Zarkar[]
Zarkar was an Elemental Master from the Wyldness and a member of the same clan as Lord Ras. He is known to have taken part in the Tournament of the Sources long ago. He was also present when the Forbidden Five devastated his home realm, and he was captured by their Wolf Clan minions shortly before they were confronted and defeated by Egalt and Rontu.
Appearances[]
Notes[]
- Zarkar was voiced by Vincent Tong, who is also known for voicing Kai.
Trivia[]
- The unofficial Ninjago story "Splinter of the Blind Man's Eye" by Tommy Andreasen introduced the Original Master of Ice, the predecessor of both the Serpentine War Master of Ice and Zane.
